Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn't a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
