Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn't a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
