Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
