Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
