Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Daniel's full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might just be players you have won't have heard of. Gus can be found competing in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
