Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he's learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
