Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn't let the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he's learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
