Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he's picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
