Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn't allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He says that he's learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
