Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
