Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi low starts like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few players can get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold 'Em, in which the board can make up every player's hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player's, it doesn't matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same notion in nearly all poker games.

The lower hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complex at first, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting collection of wagering choices and because you have many players trying for the high hand, along with many trying for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
